A. Isaev. The Media Cooperation of Russia and China: History, Challenges, Opportunities

The article traces the history of interaction between Russian and Chinese media over the last quarter of a century, analyzes main directions, problems, and prospects of practical cooperation between mass media of the two countries. Particular emphasis is placed on the expansion of their joint activities with the view of the general nature of political and other relationship of Russia and China.

A. Polutov. China and Japan: the Struggle for Resources and the Islands of the East China Sea

The problem of the territorial dispute between China and Japan regarding the Senkaku /Diaoyu Islands and related issues development of oil and gas resources and fisheries in this area of the East China Sea, as well as military-political aspects of the territorial claims of both sides are under discussion.

The article analyzes the problems of strategic partnership between Russia and People’s Republic of China, Beijing’s plans for implementation of the project of «Economic Belt of the Silk Road», as well as the impact of the situation in the Middle East and changes in Russian-American relations on the development of cooperation between the two countries.

M. Terskikh. Vietnam Approach to the Development of Relations with the U.S.

The author examines the approaches of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to promote cooperation with the United States in various spheres. He points out how the sides are taking active steps to enhance bilateral cooperation with the view of implementation of their internal and external interests. The author believes that the key factor in the rapprochement between the two countries was the policy of China in the Asia-Pacific region.

A. Tsvyk. Strategic Partnership of China and Germany in the Period of 2004–2015: Political Aspects

The author made a conclusion that the upgrading of Chinese-German relations from the «partnership with global responsibility» to «comprehensive strategic partnership» had not only economic but political and strategic value as well, and allowed to stress the «special» nature of relations between PRC and Germany.

S. Tsyplakov. On Yuan Devaluation Again

The paper follows the article «Devaluation of yuan: causes and consequences», published in «Far Eastern Affairs» (No. 5, 2015). It describes the events happened at the end of 2015 — beginning of 2016 in connection with new China’s steps for further reforming of existing yuan exchange rate mechanism and devaluation of yuan.

I. Vakhrushin. Stock Market Crisis in China (2015–2016): Determination Factors and Anti-Crisis Policy

The article identifies key factors that led to the current deep crisis of the stock market in China in 2015–2016. In addition to the economic slowdown, pressure from the foreign exchange market and deteriorating economic situation, the responsibility for the crisis rests with the China Securities Regulatory Commission, whose pre-crisis policy of market stimulation seemed to be excessive.

Jia Song. Financial Monetary Mechanisms and the Role of Banking Margin in China’s Economic Reform

A radical restructuring of the banking system was one of the key elements of socio-economic reforms. The dynamics of change in this sector and its increasing role in national economy of the PRC are discussed in the article on the basis of analysis of banking margin.

The development of additive technologies is considered by the Japanese government as one of key areas within the framework of scientific-technical and innovation policy, implemented by the country. This article attempts to analyze the policy of development of additive technologies and to identify the obstacles on the way to the achievement of better results.

D. Shcherbakov. The Oil and Gas Sector in China — Challenges and Trends

The article deals with the problems of functioning and development of oil and gas sector of China. The problem of China growing dependence on energy imports in the face of rising energy consumption was also considered. China as a major oil and gas importer could eventually become largest in the world market of consumers, opening up opportunities for hydrocarbon exporting countries, such as Russia and Central Asian States.

Zhu Yu. «One Belt, One Road» and Chinese-Russian Trade and Economic Cooperation

In the fall of 2013 Chinese President Xi Jinping declared grand initiatives: to create together «Economic Belt of the Silk Road» and «Maritime Silk Road of the XXI Century». There is a great strategic idea there, arising from the determination of China consistently to take into account the real socio-economic situation.

S. Sazonov, K. Petrunko, Wu Zi. Transport Strategy of the PRC in South-East Asia

China is the largest foreign trade partner of ASEAN and a major donor in the development of regional infrastructure. The main roads, built with Chinese investment in Southeast Asian countries, will be connected with key regional ports. This will increase the flow of export cargoes from China and Southeast Asian countries to ASEAN countries, the Middle East and Africa.

In January 2016 China began a new stage of reform of its armed forces. The article deals with the redistribution of powers between command structures responsible for control over the army.

A. Pantsov. «Hard as Stone». Childhood and Youth of Chiang Kai-shek

Last year marked the 40th anniversary of the death of one of the most famous Chinese political figures of the XX Century — Chiang Kai-shek (1887–1975), the man who played along with Sun Yat-sen, Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping the most important role in the recent history of China.

The article presents the extract of the story about the childhood and youth of the future Generalissimo taken from a new book by A. Pantsov «Chiang Kai-shek», currently prepared to the publication in Moscow.

N. Samoylov. The Swedish East India Company and Its Role in the History of Social and Cultural Interaction between China and the Countries of Northern Europe

The article discusses the main aspects of the history of the Swedish East India Company, which was founded in Gothenburg in 1731 to trade with China and other Asian countries. The interaction between China and Sweden influenced the processes in cultureal, economic and political spheres.

The article is devoted to ethno-cultural strategies to preserve Russian identity in the Chinese environment. The authors come to the conclusion that one of the essential pillars of the preservation of Russian identity is the language and folklore genres.
