K. Antipov. Some Aspects of the Evolution of China’s Middle East Policy

An attempt is made to analyze the process of the changes of the strategic balance in the policy of China in Asia due to initiatives of Chinese leadership to create land and sea zones of the “Silk Road of XXI Century”. A key element of the strategy is an emerging policy of “promoting China in West Asia”, aimed at improving the global status of China, stabilization of the situation in the Middle East and the establishment of strategic partnership relations with all countries in the region.

G. Lokshin. Vietnam and the United States: Partnership with “Reservations”

The author analyzes the relationship of Vietnam and the United States at the present stage, based on the outcome of the July 2013 visit of the President of Vietnam Truong Tan Sang to the United States. It shows that China’s territorial claims in the South China Sea led convergence of strategic interests of the United States and Vietnam and resulted in a boost to cooperation between the two countries. However, former enemies in a bloody war, moving far from hatred did not come close to the mutual trust.

Ya. Berger. New Stage of China’s Economic Development (By the Results of the Third Plenum of the 18th CPC Central Committee)

In order prevent further reduction of growth rates and to achieve the goal of global leadership of China the Third Plenum of the CPC Central Committee of the 18th convocation adopted comprehensive program of deep reforms aimed at strengthening the role of the market in resource allocation. New stage of development is aimed at turning China into the world’s largest economy. Investment expansion leads to the global expansion of China’s interests, which in turn stimulates the evolution of military doctrine in the direction of “defense on external borders”.

S. Sazonov, K. Petrunko. Restructuring of Railway Transportation in China

The XVIII Congress of the CPC and the Third Plenum of the CPC Central Committee formulated the task of restructuring Chinese rail industry management with simultaneous implementation of measures to enhance its investment attractiveness. In the process of reforming the Ministry of Railways of China was abolished.

V. Petrovsky. Origins of the “Cold War” in the Northeast Asia: Was Gromyko Always Saying “No”

The article deals with ambiguous interpretation of historical lessons of World War II in Asia and the Pacific, as well as the Korean War of 1950-1953. The author believes that the objective, compromise assessment of historical facts will help achieve reconciliation and harmony among nations and peoples of Northeast Asia.

The second part of the article deals with the problems of modernization and development of transport aircraft and aircraft armament of the PLA. It analyzes combat training of the PLA Air Force personnel and systems-based aviation.

The article analyses the process of revision of Japan defense programs and other key documents in that field that have been initiated in 2013 under the  government of Liberal Democratic Party. It pays particular attention to consideration of key provisions of the Japan’s “White Paper on the Defense” and the current state and prospects of Japan-U.S. defense cooperation.

N. Kashina. Investment Cooperation between the Russian Far East and Northeast China in the Mining Sector

Programs for the revival of the regional economy in Northeast China and the economic development of the Russian Far East provide new prospects for the border regions of the two countries. Important role in the development of their regional investment cooperation will be played by new mechanisms aimed at creating favorable conditions for foreign investors.

M. Lastochkina. The Russian Far East in the Context of Modernization

Based on the methodology, developed by Chinese economists, the process of modernization development in the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District has been considered. The obstacles and restrictions on its way are highlighted. Conclusion has been arrived that the modernization of the country’s regions was performed very unevenly and asynchronously, and interregional gaps are very wide, even among neighboring territories.

Basing on archival documents, memories and historical studies the article attempts to consider the fates of Amur Cossacks in their homeland and in emigration to China. Attention is paid not only to well-known leaders of the Cossacks, but to ordinary officers as well.

V. Kuzminkov. Russian-Japanese War of 1904-1905 in Japanese Historiography

The article describes the problem of interpretation in Japanese historiography of character and outcome of the Russian-Japanese War (1904-1905). Based on a comprehensive analysis of multiple documents, the author presents his views on the results of this war and evaluates the arguments of representatives of the academic community in Japan.

I. Sokov. The Canadian Intervention of 1918–1919 in the Far Eastern Episode of the Civil War in Russia: Causes, Objectives, Outcomes

The article analyzes the Causes, Objectives and results of the Canadian intervention in the Far East during the final stage of the First World war and the Civil war in Russia. The author cites the little-known facts about the first international conflict between Canada and Russia in the XX century and the first foreign participation of Canada in the “concert” of great powers to address global problems.

E. Lachina. “Korean Wave” as a Manifestation of “Soft Power”

Over the last decade, South Korean pop culture literally “infected” the world. The term “Korean Wave” (or hallyu) ​to describe this phenomenon is usually used. The global spread of South Korean pop culture contributed to the development of the national economy and improved the country’s image . Based on the materials of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RK the article describes the main stages of “Korean wave”, identifies main reasons for its popularity in the world.

The article deals with the problem of late prose tale and its formation as a separate genre of song and narrative folk art. Despite the large number of works on vernacular Chinese literature, this topic is still poorly understood.

N. Lebedeva. “Genius Loci” as a Factor in Intercultural Communication (Russian Emigrant Literature in Harbin and Chinese Culture )

The article is devoted to the Manchuria marginal space influence on the development of Russian emigrant and Chinese literatures. The author analyzes how the regional originalities determine the creating of the similar plots, characters and ways of literary image in both Russian and Chinese Literatures.
