Summary

K. Antipov. Developments in the Arab East and the Stand of China

The article examines the impact of events in the Arab world on the policy of the PRC. An analysis of activities to improve Beijing’s foreign economic relations in the region has been made. Particular attention is paid to trends in Sino-US relations, as well as the possibility of Sino-Russian cooperation. Key words: China, the Middle East, Africa, Libya, China-US relations, Sino-Russian cooperation.

 

Chen Zhihao. The Strategic Interests of China and India in Afghanistan

The author considers the complex issues of security in Afghanistan, the strategic inter-ests of China and India in this country, examines the prospects for an Afghan settlement.

L. Volkova. China’s Agriculture

Describing the development of the agricultural sector of China’s economy in 2010 and for the entire period of the 11th Five-Year Plan, the author pays particular attention to the ce-real production as the basis for food security. The main determinants of grain production are reviewed. Problems and challenges in agricultural development in China were also pointed.

E. Kranina. The Development of China’s Livestock

China established one of the most advanced systems of selection of highly productive breeds of poultry and livestock of all kinds. It has also elaborated effective alternative tech-nologies for livestock applied in different regions of the country. Large pig and dairy farms are increasing in numbers.

V. Chuvankova. The Development of Private Sector in China

The article showed the current status of individual and private economy in China, dis-cussed new regulations of the State to ensure favourable economic and legal environment in order to encourage private enterprises.

V. Portyakov. Shenzhen: the Success Story

Thirty years of the development of Shenzhen — one of the most famous symbols of China’s modernization policy, economic reforms and external openness — are under reviewed. Three stages of the process are considered. The period of 1980–1991 relates to formation of a special economic zone of Shenzhen. In 1992–2002 Shenzhen has played a vanguard role in China as an example of deepening market reform and functioning as the «world factory». In 2003–2010 to the forefront came innovation and integration activities of Shenzhen.

D. Streltsov. The Potential of Russian-Japanese Cooperation in Energy Conservation and Its Feasibility

Cooperation with Japan in energy efficiency will allow Russia to increase export po-tential of its energy producing industries. The article discusses specific types of cooperation, which began its rapid development after May 2009, when the relevant Russian-Japanese memorandum had been signed.

The issue of China’s economic security is considered on the base of the global crisis through the synthesis of 19 indicators of economic activity — the methodology adopted in re-cent years by number of domestic and foreign analysts.

I. Gantimurov. Activities of the Border Authorities for the Protection of Biological Resources of the Seas in the Far East

The article highlights the activities of border authorities in Russia to protect its na-tional interests in the Far Eastern seas. Particular attention is paid to fighting against foreign poaching in order to ensure effective fishing industry of the country.

Cho Joohaeng. The Development Strategy of Local E-government in the Republic of Korea

Main activities of local authorities in the ROK had been computerized by the end of 2007. Now the local e-government project has entered the second stage of implementation.

D. Babayan. The Demographic Component of Sino-Russian Relations: Challenges and Benefits

Increasing China’s demographic presence in Russia, particularly in the Far East, is an objective phenomenon. Providing some economic benefits to both countries, it often causes po-litical fear among Russian people. Beijing’s basic strategy in this regard will be the establish-ment together with Russia of an effective mechanism for mutual vulnerability, interdependence and mutual benefit.

I. Sotnikova. The Comintern and the Beginning of Communist Activities in China

On the base of little-known archival documents the author traces the history of the first contacts between the Russian Communists and Chinese revolutionaries. Special attention is paid to the active role of the RCP and Comintern representatives in establishing of Commu-nist cells in China, as well as in the preparations of the founding congress of the Communist Party of China.

A. Jurkiewicz. Soviet aid to the Kuomintang in the 1920s: the Problem of Assessment Criteria

Based on the papers newly used in scientific research, the author shows that in 1924–1925 the Soviet financial assistance was designed to stimulate the creation of reliable, centrally managed armed forces, as well as effective KMT Party organization and the strengthening of its administrative activities.

E. Zavidovskaya. Regional Peculiarities of Chinese Folk Religion in Sociological Studies of the Republican Period (First Half of the 20th Century)

The paper contains an analysis of data about people’s religion in rural China in the Republican period, taken from case studies of 1920–1930’s. It provides information about the regional specificity of folk beliefs and temple activities in the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hebei and in the suburbs of Beijing.
