Titarenko, V. Trifonov. Solid Foundation of Russian-Chinese Strategic Partnership, Friendship and Co-development

The article is devoted to the 10th anniversary of the signing the 2001 Treaty of Good-neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation between Russia and China. The historic significance of this document, which laid a solid foundation for further strengthening of friendship and cooperation between Russia and China, has been stressed. Significant achievements in the development of bilateral relations since the signing of the Treaty have been presented. The analysis of future directions for cooperation between Russia and China in various fields and their interaction in the international arena is given. The authors concluded that the strategy of good-neighbourliness, friendship and cooperation between our countries and peoples had been based on the solid foundation of mutual interests and has no alternative.

The article examines the main events held in Russia in 2010 within the framework of the Year of the Chinese language, and their significance for further deepening the bilateral strategic partnership and cooperation between Russia and China, as well as the issues of teaching and learning Chinese in Russia.

A. Kazakov. Earthquake in Japan: Human, Technological and Political Dimensions

Earthquake in Japan on March 11, 2011 led to tragic consequences for this country: a huge tsunami wave enveloped the coastal areas of northeastern Honshu Island, more than 26 thousand people have been reported dead or missing, numerous houses, facilities and manufacturing plants have gone. In addition, the tsunami has brought down the cooling system of “Fukushima -1″ nuclear power plant, which caused a serious environmental accident. The article provides some estimates of tragic events that have occurred in Japan.

US-China relations are being transformed into one of the most important global interactions of the modern world. The increasing interdependence of the two countries contributed to the emergence of new mechanisms for their cooperation.

The article presents a comprehensive analysis of current state and prospects for development of the PLA Navy on the whole and by separate forces. The problem of personal staffing and training is also examined. The author notes the success achieved by China in modernizing its navy, as well as their strengths and weaknesses.

S. Sazonov. The Order and Quality. Solution to the Problems of Urban Transportation in China

As a result of rapid motorization Beijing and other Chinese megacities have been placed in the global register of cities with the most prolonged traffic congestion and its slowest average speed. Recently the central government of PRC, the capital city council and municipal authorities of large cities decisively and actively embarked on the transport issues, including not only restrictive measures for motorists, but radical improvement of urban public transportation based on modern technology.

D. Shcherbakov. Investment Cooperation between Russia and Japan in the Russian Far East: Prospects for Development

The author analyzes the dynamics and structure of direct, portfolio and other investments by Japanese companies in the Russian Far East, and their activities in the Russian market, identifies the most attractive sectors of the economy of the Russian Far East for Japanese investors and new promising ways to attract them.

R. Tomberg. PRC Companies in the Oil Sector of African Countries

While China’s interest on the African continent is not limited to oil, a list of PRC major trading partners is mainly composed of oil-producing countries. African oil accounts for about 30% of total Chinese imports of raw materials, with 26% of it coming from the states of Gulf of Guinea and Sudan.

S. Mishchuk, M. Kulakov, M. Khavinson. Foreign Labor on the Job Market of the Jewish Autonomous Region: Analysis and Forecast

The article examines the dynamics of employment, unemployment and foreign labor in the economy of the Jewish Autonomous Region. In order to predict the number of economically active population and migrant workers in the region a mathematical model has been used. Derived scenarios of these indicators take into account factors of social tension in the regional labor market and implementation of major investment projects.

V. Korneev. Soviet Far East during World War II in the Latest National Historiography (1991–2010)

The author highlights the current historiographical trends in the study of this. The most important historical studies are listed and analyzed. Among them priority had been given to works of historians and specialists from the Russian Far East.

The article based on archival materials examines the main directions of Soviet aid to the Chinese people during the initial period and at the final stage of anti-Japanese war.

S. Tuzhilin. «Provocateurs»: Secret War in the Far East (Late 1930-s — Early 1940-s)

The article is devoted to withstanding of the Soviet and Japanese special services on the eve of the Great Patriotic War. The author focuses on secret operation “Provocateurs” realized by Soviet special services, which ruined Japanese planes to create a diversionary base in the Russian Far East. During the investigation one of the seized residents offered his help in relation to the Henry Liushkov’s case.

E. Ikonnikova, A. Nikonova. Russian Convict Prison in “Sagaren Records” by Samukava Kotaro.

The article analyses one of the works of the Japanese writer Samukava Kotaro, who is little-known in Russia. It describes in detail the genre and the plot of the story «Sagaren Records» and identifies the names of its possible prototypes. It also draws the parallels with Chekhov’s book “The Sakhalin Island”. The philological analysis provides the translation of many passages from the story in Russian.
